The Children of Cyberspace

The Children of Cyberspace: Old Fogies by Their 20s - NYTimes.com
One obvious result is that younger generations are going to have some very peculiar and unique expectations about the world. My friend’s 3-year-old, for example, has become so accustomed to her father’s multitouch iPhone screen that she approaches laptops by swiping her fingers across the screen, expecting a reaction.

I thought that was extremely interesting and true. I look at younger generations and think to myself, i never had a hand held gaming system (PSP) that i could take with me anywhere. Tamagotchi was the extent of what i had compared to what kids have today. Its not just the gaming systems, but also the age that kids are getting cell phones. When walking through the mall i'll pass a group of kids who seem to be around 10 years old and they all have their cell phones out.

As far as having parents being "hopelessly" out of touch, i think for the most part it is true, but it also depends on the parents. My parents both work with computers so theyve learned to keep up with what is going on for the most part. Ive had to help my parents with texting and facebook now and then. Even my grandma in her 80s has gotten a cell phone (that she doesnt use much) and checks her email frequently (when she goes to the library).
